Three women died in succession after caesarean section was performed upon them by doctors at VSS medical college in Sambalpur. One of the deceased belongs to Belpahar in Jharsuguda district, and the other two belong to Bargarh district.

Reportedly, the doctors conducted caesarean section on nine women on Saturday. The women were kept in the observation room after this operation.

But, three of them reportedly died one after the other immediately when they were shifted to the observation room. The doctors suspect the deaths could have taken place due to the side effects of medicines provided by the government to the hospital.

Following the incident, the supply of medicines by the government to the Gynaecology ward of the hospital were ceased.

“The post-surgery condition of the three women was all right. But their condition deteriorated suddenly after taking the medicines. After a bout of severe vomiting, they foamed and died suddenly. We suspect the death could be due to the reaction of the drugs administered on them,” Dr Lalmohan Nayak, assistant professor, Gynaecology, reportedly said.

It is noted that before 2 years, nine newborn babies have died at the VSS Medical College and Hospital in Burla in the 24 hours.
