A hardcore Maoist couple, Amar Mirdha (30) and Arati Kumar surrendered before Deogarh SP Chittaranjan Das on Friday.
The couple had brought along with them their two sons, aged five and two.
While Amar is a native of Topopada under Jujumura police limits in Sambalpur district, Arati belongs to Jadagula village in Riamal block of the district.
Reports said Amar had joined the banned outfit in 2000 and has 32 cases pending against him in Sambalpur district besides five in Deogarh district.
Similarly, Arati joined the outfit in 2002 and has 16 cases pending against her in Sambalpur district and another five in Deogarh district.
Trained in firearms, the duo decided to join the mainstream for the future of their children.
Deogarh SP said the couple will get their dues and benefits as per the rehabilitation policy for Maoists who surrender. He informed that the couple have been handed over Rs 5,000 and rest would follow after approval from the Home Department.
